Intelligent operations drive better business outcomes

On the verge of 2020, companies should already have known the key role intelligence solutions play to boost results. In my latest article¹, I discussed the importance of having a data efficiency optimization strategy to support decision makers. I claimed that making decisions based on facts rather than intuition or hidden internal knowledge is imperative in an era in which digital transformation and big data are changing the way enterprises conduct their businesses.

Indeed, intelligent operations drive better business outcomes. If you rely your decisions on analytics tools the chances to ensure efficiency while optimizing investments and costs are increased. By the end of the day, what all executives want, is to leverage more efficient processes and get the most of them.

A 2018 research² study from Accenture and HfS suggests the future belongs to organizations with intelligent operations that enable them to have a 360-degree view of their operations, enabling quicker, insight-led decision making. They argued – and I totally agree with them – that what companies have traditionally relied on to improve performance, such as process optimization, cost reduction, and predictability, can’t deliver what’s needed to maintain share and grow in the next generation of customers.

One interesting thing in the research is that it points out five intelligent operations essentials. They are: innovative talent; data-driven backbone (decisions based on real-time data being key driver); applied intelligence (adopting analytics, artificial intelligence); leveraging the cloud power; and smart partnership ecosystem.

The patch to change business operations performance is not an easy one, but I guarantee it’s extremely necessary. Organizations must start today, if they aim to continue being relevant, to combine innovative talent, diverse data, and applied intelligence in order to use data-driven insights to improve business outcomes and enhance the customer experience.

It’s necessary to unlock the power of companies’ data to become more innovative and achieve new revenue streams. It’s also mandatory to set an analytics and operational architecture to transform data into insights.

A Forbes Insights study³ noted that among IT pioneers, digital transformation isn't just their biggest challenge, it's also their best opportunity as they see a data-defined path to unlock success in digital business.

On the eBook based on the study, I highlight a quote of my colleague Paul Lewis, Chief Technology Officer at Hitachi Vantara Americas, he said: “data has long been collected, managed and secured, but rarely has it been seen as a business asset in the way it is viewed today. Enterprises now recognize that data has a unique value and characteristics that require special consideration.”

I couldn’t agree more. And it’s also true for Latin American enterprises. Digital transformation is an opportunity for companies to shorten time to market and create more agile business processes.
